Green tea is prepared from the leaves of Camellia sinensis that have gone through minimal oxidation during processing. It is prepared and grown in various ways, depending on the variety of green tea wanted. It is the most widely ingested beverage, next to water. India and China were the first to crop Green Tea. The three main types of tea are green, black, and oolong. It is believed since the ancient times that green tea is a health promoting beverage. There are many benefits of green tea which are based on several researches.
1.Weight Control: It is proved on the basis of many evidences that Green tea contains fat-burning properties and encourages weight loss. It works more efficiently when taken with increased physical exercise and a healthy diet. Green tea modifies energy expenditure and fat oxidation in obese persons and burn the fat.
2.Lowering cholesterol: Green tea decreases total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels and amends the ratio of HDL to LDL cholesterol. It is found that people who take green tea as their daily diet have lower cholesterol levels than those who do not consume it.
3.Longevity: Green tea is supposed to keep away us from all causes of death, especially cardiovascular disease.

8.Anti-hypertensive:Green tea brings down blood pressure and helps in preventing hypertension. Green Tea enhances production of nitric oxide in body which expands arteries and thereby reduces blood pressure. Persons taking tea regularly for at least one year, were found to have 46% lower risk of developing high blood pressure than those who consumed 1/2 cup to 2 1/2 cups daily.
9.Atherosclerosis:Regular green tea intake may be helpful in the prevention of atherosclerosis, when the plaque increases on the insides of the arteries.
10.Smoking:Green tea may be helpful for smokers to prevent from oxidative damages and also brings down cancer risk or other diseases caused by smoking. Future cardiovascular disorders may also be prevented in chronic smokers.
